(Matthew 9:37)
“Then saith He unto His disciples, the harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborer’s are few”

When it comes to the salvation of the soul of the man God made, He chose to ‘need’ man. The Word (Jesus) had to come as man to save man. He taught the gospel to a group of men and they, in turn, handed down this ministry of reconciliation. In Acts 10, though an angel appeared to Cornelius in a vision, Peter was the one who declared the gospel to him and his family. We see this also with Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch; “Philip opened his mouth…and preached unto him, Jesus” (Acts 8:26-39). This word of reconciliation has been committed unto us.

From our anchor scripture, Jesus said that the harvest is plenteous. The harvest was ripe over two thousand years ago and it is still ripe! A farmer knows that if a crop is ripe for harvest, it becomes an emergency. This harvest field represents the lost, many of whom are ready to give their lives to Christ if someone would proclaim the gospel to them. There are souls to rescue, there are souls to save and God has sent you and me. If we do nothing within the allotted period, so many souls might be lost. We should use every opportunity to bring in the harvest with every sense of urgency.

The problem, however, is the Laborer’s. Jesus made it clear that the problem is not with the harvest but that the labourers are few. The true gospel ministers who will labour faithfully in the Word and doctrine, be constant in prayers, and give up themselves to meditation and study of the Word, to show themselves as approved unto good works. The harvest needs laborer’s to preach the Word in season, and out of season and diligently discharge the several duties assigned to them to gain souls for Christ.

Brethren, most times, we are so busy doing ‘great’ things for Jesus but not reaching the lost for Him. The ball is in our court – do you want people saved or not? Be that labourer! Walk with the Holy Spirit. Pray for the right words at the right time. God is not willing that any soul should perish. Therefore, we will go and find the lost sheep, and bring them home.

• Are you resolute in your pursuit for the souls of men?

*Are you a loiterer or a labourer in the harvest field?

• Remember that making disciples is a direct command from Jesus.

• Lord Jesus, thank You for sending someone to find me. I once was lost but now I am found, was blind but now I see.

• Father, help me to extend this amazing grace of the gospel to others. That many lost souls may come to know Jesus Christ and accept Him as Lord, amen.

Remember O Most Gracious Virgin Mary. That never was it known, that anyone who fled to Thy protection, implored Thy help or sought Thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto Thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother, to Thee I come, before Thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petition but in Thy clemency, hear and answer me, Amen.
