TOPIC: LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE
TEXT: MATT. 5:16
Light can be seen as the natural agent that stimulates sight and makes things visible. The importance of light cannot be over-emphasized as we could see that it was one of the first things that God created from the very beginning (Gen. 1:1-3). The Lord Himself declared in John 8:12 that He is the Light of the World and anyone who follows Him will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. As a child of God, we are the light of the world as represented in Matthew 5:14. The primary quality and purpose of light is to shine in order to illuminate the environment for all to see things clearly. If this quality and purpose is not made manifest, then the very essence of light is defeated and its importance needless.
Our Lord Jesus Christ, in one of His foremost sermons in Matthew 5:16, encouraged His disciples to allow their light to shine before men, that they may see their good deeds and praise their Father in heaven. Not allowing your light to shine is like a trained Medical Doctor denying his services to the sick members of his community, thereby causing avoidable death of human resources who ought to add values to the society and making it better. Being the light of the world without shining is useless, fruitless and meaningless. It is in shining your light before men in your neighborhood, offices, business premises, market places, tribal meetings and everywhere you find yourself that your good works will make them to praise God and get converted to Him. Furthermore, not allowing your light to shine is equivalent to denying the glory and praise to be returned to God. The epistle of your life that people see daily is more powerful than what you preach or teach.
Beloved, the light we are is a symbol of holiness, goodness, wisdom, knowledge, grace, faith, hope and love. After recognizing who you are, you must be deliberate to live the life of a carrier of light. You must also be cautious of your identity in Christ Jesus and must not walk in darkness at all. You must not compromise that, if you really want to keep shining your light before men so as to bring glory to God.
Finally, never forget that your being light is tied to Jesus, the Light of the World. Hence, when you involve Him at all times and you are submissive to Him, shining your light becomes easy as you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you and outside Him, you can do nothing (Phil. 4:13, Jn. 15:5). May the Holy Spirit help us to illuminate our world with the Light of Christ.
*Are you convinced of being the light of the world?
*Have you compromised your light by walking in darkness (evil) in any way?
*Father, forgive me in any way I have failed to shine my light.
*Dear Lord, help me to practice what I preach and teach.
*O God, give me the grace to bring glory to you in the Mighty Name of Jesus.
Remember, o most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implore thy help or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, o Virgin of virgins, and my mother, to thee I come, before thee I stand sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word incarnate, despise not my petition but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
