TOPIC: Living Beyond Distractions

TEXT: Luke 10:40.

People are easily distracted in life when they loose focus of their purpose in life and when their priorities are not ordered rightly. What is your purpose in life? Have you discovered it?

There are several reasons why people are distracted which may include self or flesh, people’s opinions, relationships, cell phone, popularity, possession, cares and worries of this world. If you are going to fulfill your purpose on earth, you must dare to be different from others and stay focused on Jesus. Romans 12:2 says we should not be conformed to the standards of this world but be transformed by the renewing of our minds. God has a standard and it should never be compromised. John 2: 15 says we should not love the world or the things in it.

In the anchor scripture for today, we saw that Martha invited Jesus to her house but she got distracted with domestic matters, while Mary was at the feet of Jesus to learn from Him. Like Martha, many of us are carrying out self-imposed assignments that are not acknowledged by heaven. Jesus has told us that one thing is needful and that is to have personal relationship with Him. God values your relationship with Him much more than the so many activities that becloud your vision. Apostle Peter was focusing on Jesus and he was able to walk on the waters, but the moment he removed his gaze on Jesus, he got distracted and started sinking. We should always remain focused on Jesus and not be distracted, so that we will not sink under the load of despair (Matt. 14:28-31).

My beloved brethren, you are faced every day with distractions. Like Martha, some of the distractions you have may seem good but note that not every good deed is right. You must be focused and live above these distractions in order to fulfill your purpose of creation. Find out what God wants you to do and focus on it. He will not ask you to do everything (Phil. 3:13). Learn to look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith (Heb. 12:2).

  • Mary and Martha have ministries; which of the ministries do you belong to?
  • Is your priority in life in line with your purpose?

  • Lord, give me the grace to always focus on Jesus no matter what comes my way so that l will not be distracted and sink under the load of despair in Jesus Name Amen.
  • Lord, reveal the purpose of my creation to me.
  • Lord, help me to order my priorities right.

Remember, o most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implore thy help or sought thy intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins. My mother, to thee I come, before thee I stand sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word incarnate, despise not my petition but in thy mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.
