TOPIC: Walking in Truth
TEXT: Acts 5:4
Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.
One of the greatest self deceit is this: one who claims to walk with God and yet, walk in lies.
Walking in truth means walking in consistency with the truth you hold. If you believe you are a child of God, then walk like a child of God in every aspect of your life; in your thoughts, words or actions. Walking in truth also means living in a way that honors and pleases the Lord.
John 14:6 says Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. In order for you to walk in truth, you must abide in Christ and He will abide in you as stated in John 15:4&7. At that point it is no longer you that lives but Christ living and walking in you as revealed in Galatians 2:20.
Walking in truth is walking in God’s truth, which is genuine, without pretence, lies, compromise or concealment. The world wants to see the truth of the gospel lived out in every sphere of our lives! People need to see that your associating with them reveals the truth they yearn for in such a way that they genuinely encounter Jesus, not only in your words, but also in your everyday actions by the fruits you bear.
In our anchor scripture, the real crime of Ananias and Sapphira was not that they kept back some of the money, but that they have lied to God. They lied to God the Holy Spirit while attempting to give themselves a superficial image. It is the sin of hypocrisy. They wanted the credit and the prestige for sacrificial generosity just like we do in our churches, without the commensurate effort, all in a bid to gain a false reputation; they told a brazen lie. It is evident from their attitude that their motive for giving was not to relieve the poor, but to fatten their own ego.
Beloved brethren, in order to live a life in the Spirit and be effective in the ministry God has handed over to you, you must walk in truth at all times. Furthermore, to walk in truth, you must walk in unity, love, obedience to God and be focused in things that are eternal. In addition, you must also avoid living a double standard life, a life of hypocrisy and a life of falsehood.
**Your motive for any act matters because a selfish intent makes what ought to be good become an act of inappropriate deed and could also be unappreciated.
**You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free as stated in John 8:32.
**Lord, give me the grace to walk in truth.
**Lord, remove every garment of hypocrisy in my life.
John 15:4&7, Galatians 2:20.
